Abstract
This study was conducted in Dodoma-Makulu Ward in Dodoma Urban District. The general
objective was to assess the involvement of stakeholders in addressing land conflicts in urban
areas. The study involved 110 households who provided their opinions on the study theme.
Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed in data collection. Research
methods used were questionnaire, observation, interview, and documentary review. Data
collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 20.0. The study
revealed that 81% of the respondents were aware that Dodoma Urban District has been
dealing with the management of land issues. More so, it has been noted that the
contradictions of knowing the organ responsible for governing land matters between Dodoma
Urban District and other stakeholders; has lead to land conflict between respondents and
government. Also the study findings revealed that 82% of respondents said that land
stakeholders have no capacity to solve land conflict. 81% of all respondents said that
stakeholders do not consider gender in land ownership. 72% of the respondents indicated
that they were affected by investors and 66% of respondents do not have certificates for land
ownership. The study concludes that Dodoma Urban Districts has frequent incidences of land
conflicts due to poor coordination of stakeholders in land governance and lack of knowledge
in land policy to people. The study recommends that government under ministry of land and
all stakeholders strengthen coordination and create awareness on land policy to the
community.
